Pedagogical Monitoring Survey

Last Updated: 02/02/2022

Survey application
(since 1st semester 2020/2021)

Current rules

  1. Taking into account the importance of the students' involvement and responsibility on the quality of teaching, as well as this surveys' relevance for the evaluation processes required by the legislation in force, the participation in this survey is mandatory.
  2. The pedagogical monitoring survey is activated when the answer period of the first course that ends during the semester begins.
  3. The courses'/teachers' questionnaires answer period for each course starts when the last 20% of each course classes' are reached. Examples: if the course classes' duration is 100 days, the answering season starts at the 80th class day; if the course classes' duration is 50 days, the answering season starts at the 40th class day and so on.
  4. During the courses questionnaires' answer period students have the possibility to participate in the pedagogical monitoring survey choosing that they don't want to answer it, adding a justification.
  5. According to Iscte Academic Code of Conduct (Art. 8,f), students should "Answer in due time all the institutional questionnaires that ISCTE must apply both in the context of its quality assurance system and in line with the requirements of national and international certification and accreditation agencies."
  6. Not taking part in the survey will block the student access to the Curriculum everytime that there's at least one not answered survey of a Curricular Course whose class period has reached 90%.
  7. All survey blocks must be answered- including the survey blocks of teachers with whom no contact was made by choosing the option "I didn't attend classes" – to avoid temporarily blocking access to the curriculum.
  8. The blocking period will end as soon as there's no survey pending participation. Once the pedagogical monitoring survey ends, all ongoing blocks will end even if there's no answer submitted.
  9. The final submission of the pedagogical monitoring survey is only possible after the student has responded to the questionnaire general block, to all courses' questionnaires in which he is enrolled and at least one teacher in each course.

Survey application
(since 2nd semester 2017/2018)

Current rules

  1. Student participation in the pedagogical monitoring surveys is a matter of the utmost importance for ISCTE-IUL taking into consideration students' involvement and sense of responsibility in teaching quality, as well as this surveys' relevance for the external assessment processes required by legislation in force. According to ISCTE-IUL's Academic Code of Conduct, students must "Respond in a timely manner to all institutional surveys that ISCTE-IUL has to apply within the framework of its quality guarantee system and according to the national and international certification and accreditation agencies' requirements.
  2. The courses'/teachers' questionnaires answer period for each course corresponds to the last 20% of each course classes' duration. Examples: if the course classes' duration is 100 days, the questionnaire must be responded during the last 20 days of the courses' classes; if the course classes' duration is 50 days, the questionnaire must be responded during the last 10 days of classes, and so on (but if the courses' classes duration is only 2 weeks, the courses' questionnaire will be available to be answered during the last week of classes).
  3. The final submission of the pedagogical monitoring survey is only possible after the student has responded to the questionnaire general block, to all courses' questionnaires in which he is enrolled and at least one teacher in each course.

Survey application
(since 2nd semester 2015/2016)

Current rules

  1. Taking into account the importance of the students' involvement and responsibility on the quality of teaching, as well as this surveys' relevance for the evaluation processes required by the legislation in force, the participation in this survey is mandatory.
  2. The pedagogical monitoring survey is activated when the answer period of the first course that ends during the semester begins.
  4. During the courses questionnaires' answer period (the last 20% of each course classes' duration) students have the possibility to participate in the pedagogical monitoring survey responding that they don't want to answer it, submitting that response option.
  5. The non-participation in the pedagogical monitoring survey implies the blocking of the students' curriculum in Fenix throughout the whole semester (Dispatch nr. 9/2016 from ISCTE-IUL's Rector, available in Fenix).
  6. If the students haven't responded to the courses' questionnaires during their answer period or if they haven't responded that they didn't want to answer them, students still have the possibility to avoid the curriculum blocking until the end of the if semester, in the meantime, they fill the unanswered questionnaires.
  7. The final submission pedagogical monitoring survey of the present semester is only possible after the student has responded to the questionnaire general block, to all courses' questionnaires in which he is enrolled and at least one teacher in each course.

Answering periods and courses' blocking definitions

Current rules

  1. Each course's answering period may last up to 40 days and is defined taking into account the classes' period of each course.
  2. The answering period begins 30 days before each course's last day of classes, except in the cases in which the courses' duration is lower than this 30 days period. In this case, the survey will be opened in the following day of the first day of classes.
  3. The courses answering period finishes 10 days after each courses' last day of classes.
  4. Taking into account the importance of the students' involvement and responsibility on the teaching quality, as well as this surveys' relevance for the evaluation processes required by the legislation in force, the participation in this survey is mandatory, obviously including the option for the student to respond that he/she doesn't want to respond. The consequence of the non-participation in this survey is the temporary blocking of the student's access to their Curriculum page in the Fenix system (Dean's Dispatch order nr. 73/2010).
  5. For the students that don't participate in the course's survey the blocking period of the curriculum's access is 20 days and defined in the following way:
    • In the last 10 days of the course's answering period the blocking of access to the curriculum is applied, but if the student responds during this period the blocking is immediately removed (as you can see in the upwards image marked in orange);
    • In the last 10 days after the course's answering period the blocking of access to the curriculum is applied without the possibility of answering the course's survey (as you can see in the upwards image marked in red).
  6. Since the blocking of access to the curriculum is applied taking into account each course's answering period, an overlapping of blockings regarding diferent courses can occur;
  7. If a course survey hasn't been filled in, the students may still answer to the remaining courses' surveys in which the answering period is open.
