Manual of enrollment and registration for candidates and new students
The present manual aims to help candidates and new students during the online enrollment/registration process in the 1st cycle courses of Iscte, through Fénix.
The target audience of this manual is thus constituted by:
For the enrollment/registration in the course in which they have been placed the student doesn’t need to go to Iscte, all she/he needs is an internet connection.
The enrolment/registration process for Iscte courses is divided into the following steps:
National Access Competition 2021
1st Step – Enrollment and enrolment of placed candidates at Iscte – 1st phase – 27 September to 1 October
Iscte has established a set of rules, in compliance with the guidelines of the health authorities, to ensure its students, teachers and staff all the safety conditions to face the pandemic.
These rules start right at the moment of enrollment and extend to all activities on campus, namely classes.
The Iscte Contingency Plan can – and should – be consulted here.
Very important: The enrollment/registration process is carried out exclusively online. It is advised to read carefully the instructions during the enrollment process in Fénix.
What: Online enrollment/registration at https://fenix.iscte-iul.pt.
When and where: 9.30am – 11.59pm | from any computer with internet connection [1].

As for the status of registrations in the curricular units of the course, it is reported that the Fénix system will automatically enroll in the mandatory curricular units of the 1st curricular year (in the 1st and 2nd semester) unless the student requests the part-time regime.
Thus, there will only be a need for the student himself to register in curricular units in the following cases:
So if there are still missing registrations will be shown, on this screen, the following warning. The red notice indicates that it is necessary for the student to complete registration scans in curricular units.
Click Continue to move on to the next step.

On this screen, you can see the curricular year and the class of your enrolment and can indicate whether you want to apply for the part-time scheme, the worker-student scheme or if you have any disability, illness, or learning disorder (e.g. dyslexia, dysgraphia) that makes it difficult for you to work or participate in academic life.
To answer the questions, please note the following:
Click “Save“. If you don’t want any of the schemes listed click “Continue“.
Students who select the Option Do you wish to enroll on a part-time basis (limited enrollment between 30 and 36 ects)?, must enroll in mandatory and/or optional curricular units corresponding to a credit range between a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 36 credits.
By selecting this option, you are applying for part-time arrangements.
This application implies the payment of the fee of 10 euros that must be made simultaneously with the payment of the registration fee and the first installment of the bribe.
Students who select the “Is worker-student option?” must submit in the SGE the respective application accompanied by the documents provided for in the Regulation of the Statute of the Student Worker of Iscte.
According to what was mentioned above, if the course has optional curricular units (free, optional options in the area of transversal skills or other areas) in the 1st curricular year or if the student indicated that he intends to enroll on a part-time regime, then it is necessary for the student to finish the registration process.
At this stage of registration and registration, the screen allows:
In the 1st curricular year, the student must be enrolled in compulsory and optional curricular units (if there are optional in the 1st year of the course) that make up a total of 60 credits, unless they request the part-time scheme.
Read the information on the screen about the registration rules carefully.
In case you need to clarify academic questions, send an e-mail to one of the addresses indicated on the screen taking into account the school of your course and always mentioning your name, student number, course and curriculum units
The curriculum of each course consists of a tree of groups that has, at the lowest level of each group or “branch” of this tree, the respective curricular units associated with one year/semester of the course.
Registration in the compulsory curricular units of the 1st curricular year of the course will be created automatically by the system and will be marked in green and with the plica in the respective box on the right side (1), with the exception of applicants for the part-time scheme (2).
NOTES
(1) If the student did not apply for the part-time scheme but verifies that registrations in the compulsory curricular units of the 1st year, in the 1st and 2nd semester, are not made automatically, that is, that they are not marked in green, then just place the plica in each one so that they are marked in green.
(2) For part-time applicants, no automatic registrations will be created in any curricular unit so there will be no green-marked curricular units. In this case, all mandatory and/or optional registrations will have to be made on this screen by the student.
In addition to automatic registrations made by the Fénix system, there is only a need for the student to register in curricular units in the following cases:
– if the course has, in the 1st curricular year, optional curricular units (optional free, optional of transversal competencies or other areas);
– if you choose the part-time scheme.
The optional curricular units may or may not exist in the 1st year of each course.
Check for optional curriculum units in the 1st year of your course.
The optional curricular units can be free or from the area of cross-sectional competencies or from another indicated area.
To enroll in optional curricular units, it is necessary that the respective groups and subgroups are open, that is, that they have the plica in the respective box on the right side up to the level at which the curricular units are visible.
The following indicates the process of opening the groups/subgroups up to the level at which the curricular units are available for registration.
The example shows the structure of a course curriculum but there are courses with different structures so the student should check and follow the structure of their course.
In the following image, this is the registration in optional curricular units, in which the group with the name Optatives is still closed (i.e., without the plica on the right).
After placing the plica in the respective box on the right side, the Optatives group is open and the respective subgroups are visible (see image below). However, it is verified that there are no curricular units available for registration, so it is necessary to open the subgroups.
After opening the subgroup with the name Livres, placing the plica, we verified that their curricular units are not of the 1st curricular year so we do not need it to remain open and we can close it by removing the plica.
By closing this group of Free optatives, removing the plica that had been placed, the list of options becomes invisible again.
Any group or subgroup can only be closed when its subgroups and/or curricular units are also closed or unregistered (without plica).
Now, to continue the registration process, it is necessary to open the Cross Skills subgroup by placing the plica.
With the Cross-Cutting Skills subgroup open, it is verified that no curricular units for enrollment are yet shown and that the Mandatory subgroup is shown.
It is then necessary to open the Mandatory subgroup by placing the plica.
After the opening of the Mandatory subgroup , the list of curricular units was visible and it turns out that they are from the 1st curricular year, so registration should be made in these CUs taking into account the existing rules.
It is necessary to register taking into account the limits of credits and other rules defined in the groups and subgroups and also in the curricular units themselves.
With open groups/subgroups and their curricular units visible, check the following:
In this case, in the Group Optative > Transversal > Mandatory > Competencies there is the rule Credits for Approval: 6.0, then, registrations must be made in curricular units in the Subgroup Mandatory that make up the total of 6 credits .
The registration in a curricular unit is made by placing the plica in the small square box on the right on the respective line and choosing the time (see the following section to see how the time is made).
The following is an example of a situation in which it is necessary for the student to choose curricular units from among several options presented, with defined rules, but in which there is no list of direct choice of curricular units in the curriculum plan of the course.
In the following image, the student must enroll in curricular units that make up a total of 6 credits. There are several options to choose from, you can choose a UC of 6 credits, or several UC of 1, 2 or 3 credits until you reach the total of 6 credits. To choose, click Choose Option.
Then choose the concrete curriculum unit by clicking Enroll.
And then choose the time of the curricular unit (see the following section to learn how the time is made).
In the image shown below, in the curriculum of another course, in the Optional group there is the cross-sectional competencies subgroup that has the following subgroups:
In this case, the student has to enroll in the two curricular units that make up the 4 credits in the Group of Mandatory and in curricular units that make up the 2 credits (1 UC of 2 credits or 2 UC of 1 credit) in the group of Facultatives to total the 6 credits indicated in the group “father” of the transversal competencies.
Enrollment in the optional curricular units (free, optional in the area of transversal skills or other area) is made by choosing one of the available times.
In each optional curricular unit, only the schedules with vacancies will be shown.
Registration in the optional curricular units is carried out as indicated below.
First, check which semester the curricular unit you are enrolling in takes place. In the case shown in the following image, the curricular unit takes place in the 2nd semester.
Then open your student schedule in a new browser tab by clicking here on the sign-up screen or under “Schedule” in the left side menu of the screen.
In your student hours, which will already have the mandatory curricular units in case Fénix has already made automatic registration, consult the semester time corresponding to the semester of the curricular unit in which you will enroll, clicking on the respective link, in this case the UC is the 2nd semester, so we clicked on the link of the 2nd semester.
Check your student schedule when you are free (days of the week and hours).
In the example of the following image, it turns out that the student’s time is free:
Go back to the Enroll in curricular units screen (in the tab next to it) and place the plica in the desired curriculum unit.
In the example shown, the plica was placed in the curricular unit Professional presentations.
When placing the plica in the curricular unit, the box with the list of available times is opened, that is, with vacancies.
In the list presented, choose the following form the time that best suits the time you already have with the mandatory curricular units by clicking the “Choose” button.
At each available time the following information can be found:
In the curricular units of transversal competencies that have less than 6 credits, as a rule, the period of classes does not occupy the entire semester because they have a smaller number of classes.
Thus, if necessary, in the same semester you can choose sequential schedules of more than one curricular unit of transversal competencies, taking into account the start and end dates of the classes throughout the semester, so that there are no overlaps of classes.
Use the information of each time to choose (the day of the week, the hours and the period of the classes) to check in your student hours in the same semester with all the registrations you have made so far, what is the time of the curricular unit in which you are enrolling that suits you the most.
Use the vertical scroll to the right of the box that has the times to see the full list of times available in each of the curriculum unit.
Next, click Choose at the time that suits you best.
And then confirm that you don’t have overlaps on your schedule that require correction.
To check your time after each registration, refer to the tab next to the browser where your student time is located and refresh it with the F5 key.
In the example shown below, the time chosen in the curriculum unit did not create overlaps for what is correct. If there are overlaps, the overlapping lessons section will be indicated in the section: with the background in red (see images from the following 2 figures).
Registration/times can be changed until the end of the registration period but please note that the vacancies of the best times are filled quickly and that when you withdraw the registration of a time is freeing up this vacancy that can be quickly occupied by another student.
At the time of the example shown below, it can be seen that the Professional Presentations curricular unit has classes on Wednesdays, but there is one class with longer duration and two shorter all in the same time slot (between 13:00 and 16:30). This means that the class schedule is not the same in all weeks during the class period defined for the curricular unit. So, to know what is the effective time in each week, in the section with the name Choose the semester or week, click on the week number and see the respective time.
In the example shown below, the time chosen in the last curricular unit in which you enrolled created overlaps with the time that the student already had of the remaining curricular units so it has to be changed/corrected.
The time chosen for the Professional Presentations curriculum unit needs to be replaced by another time that does not create overlaps.
In case there are no other times with vacancies in the curricular unit, then another curricular unit should be chosen, but if there is no other curricular unit available, you must confirm the registration with the overlaps and request support to the school that manages the course via email.
The overlapping classes are indicated in the warning box (red) with the title Overlapping classes marked in the image above.
Each line indicates an overlay of classes that contains the following information: the names of the curricular units, the day, and the overlapping start and end times of the class.
Overlap can occur between optional curricular units or between compulsory curricular units and optional curricular units.
The student cannot change the schedule of the compulsory curricular units but can choose another time in the optional curricular units as long as there are hours with vacancies.
In the case presented as an example in the image, you can only choose another time in the professional presentations curricular unit because it is the only curricular unit that is within the group of ecusers.
To choose another time, go back to the enrollment page in the curriculum units, remove the plica from the curriculum unit where you need to choose another time, and click Save.
In the browser tab with your student schedule, click F5 (refresh) to update your student hours and check the free periods.
Go back to the registration page, choose another time following the process already indicated, and at the end, click Save.
In the browser tab with the student schedule, click F5 again and confirm that your schedule has no overlaps, following these procedures until you finish all registrations in curricular units without overlaps in your student schedule.
The “Conditional enrollment” rule, shown in the following image, applies to specific cases and does not allow the student to choose the group or curriculum unit in which this rule is located.
Thus, whenever a group or a curricular unit has this rule, the group or the curricular unit cannot be used by students for enrollment.
In the following case, the student can choose any of the three indicated curricular units (“Professional Presentations”, “Technical Report Writing” and “Business English”) to obtain the 6 required credits in the group, but Optional 3 cannot be used by the student for having the Registration rule conditional.
After registering for 60 credits (ECTS) in the 1st year curriculum units, you can click Confirm to continue to the next stage of registration/registration.
On the Enroll in curricular units screen, you can change some enrollment parameters by clicking change enrollment parameters.
The change screen for some of the enrollment parameters is as follows:
To save the changes, click Submit. To go back (to the sign-up page) without making any changes to the data on this screen, click Back.
If you had not applied for part-time and now intend to make the change and have placed the plica in the field of part-time arrangements, but when you submit the following error message, this situation must be registered in more claims than those allowed by the part-time scheme (30 to 36 ECTS).
To correct the situation, proceed as indicated below the image.
You can correct the situation as follows:
A part-time student is called a part-time student who, in a given school year, opts for part-time attendance by enrolling in a small number of curricular units in a study cycle leading to a bachelor’s or master’s degree, benefiting from a reduction in the value of the tuition and specific prescription rule.
Students who apply for part-time arrangements will have to enroll in the desired curricular units, since in this case the system will not make any automatic enrolment in curricular units. The limit of ECTS credits to which a part-time student can enroll is between 30 and 36 credits.
To register in each desired compulsory curricular unit of the 1st year, in the 1st and/or 2nd semester, place the plica in the small square box on the right side at the bottom of the UC line.
If you wish to enroll in optional curricular units of transversal skills or in another type of optative (provided that they exist in the 1st year of your course), register as indicated in the Section Enrollment in optional curricular units (optional free, optional in the area of transversal skills or other areas mentioned).
Confirm that your student schedule has no overlaps. Otherwise, overlaps must be corrected. Check how to fix in overlaps on schedules.
In order to finally confirm the registration in the curricular units, you must be enrolled in 60 credits (ECTS) in the 1st curricular year of the course. So check on the sign-up page to see if the number of Credits entered is equal to 60 as shown in the image.
If the credits registered are less than 60, then you have not yet signed up for all the 1st year curriculum units and the following message will be shown so you will not be able to confirm the registration.
Check in which curricular units of the 1st year is that is not yet enrolled and register according to the rules that exist of the curriculum until totaling the 60 credits enrolled.
When you are enrolled in 60 credits (ECTS) in the 1st year, click Confirm on the subscriptions page.
The next screen of the Phoenix registration/registration process will be shown.
On this screen there is important information about tuition fees, there is the link to access the survey for new students and can be printed the documents referring to their registration and registration:
Read carefully all the information provided, print the necessary documents and respond to the “Survey 1st registration in the course”.
After printing the documents and responding to the “Survey 1st registration in the course”, please refer to the remaining information of the steps to be followed and complete the registration/registration procedures in iscte in the best way.
References and deadlines for payment of fees by ATM will be made available in the Current Account – Bribes 2021/2022 feature in Fénix. Thus, in order not to miss deadlines, in the coming days consult daily the following functionality of Fénix:
You can consult the curriculum plans of the courses here. The following click:
You can view the curriculum plans of the courses here. Then click “schedules” on the course line you want, and in the class table, click the name of the class in the semester you want to see.
If you left Fénix before you arrived at the registration page in the curricular units and want to resume the registration/registration process but do not know how to do so, then in this case, your registration was not finished so you must perform the following procedures:
If you left Fénix when you were already on the registration page in the curricular units and now you want to finish them, then you should do the following:
If you left Fénix but you don’t know what screen you were on and want to resume the registration/registration process, then do the following:
If you were able to authenticate and see the next page, then click the Student portal.
Next, to access the page where you can finish registrations, click Curriculum Units in the Subscribe section of the left side menu.
